Every once in awhile I meet somebody who has never owned or loved a dog. There is no way they really understand what you have experienced. We raised four kids and several dogs in the same house over a span of more than thirty years. The only time my kids ever saw the old man cry was when he dropped tears in the hole he was digging for the dog. You do get over it and I know my kids will eventually do the same thing. We have other dogs now, but you never forget the one that was special.
