Taffy's condition deteriorated over the weekend. Sunday was tough, and I
knew I'd have to call the vet Monday morning. He said he would come by
after he closed the clinic at 5pm. I worked till noon and took the rest of
the day off. The kids have known this day was coming, but it was still
hard. We were all there with her on a blanket on the deck out back. She
went very peacefully. Emotions were high for all of us, but I was doing ok,
mostly because there was a lot of work to do... I made a coffin from cedar
fence planks and then had a lot of digging to do, which kept me busy. It
wasn't until I was putting the shovels away in the garage that I had a
moment to look at the truck and think that she had got to ride in it... that
I lost it.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and support over the last few months.
We will have another dog someday soon, and I'm sure it will love to ride in
the truck, but in my mind, and the kids, the WC-51 will always be associated
with our Taffy dog.
