Phil, I talked to Vpw this afternoon, the angles aren't hardened steel just plain ole steel. As for the extra washer I just think a nice stainless thrust washer couldn't hurt. I havn't drilled the winch bracket holes in my angle yet so I can put them where ever I want. I'm sort of surprised that there was never a thrust washer, maybe there is no thrust?? although the old winch shaft bracket I replaced was quite worn as a result of the drum pushing against it.
