Torque converter button theory???

The button will align the convertor concentrically, but how would it cause thrust? Since the converter has room to move fore-and-aft, unless it gets ballooned it can't push on the crank. And radial misalignment would possible load rear main, not the thrust bearing...inquiring minds want to know????
