Nick,
You are making that seal removal way more complicated than it needs to be. If you went after it for 5 minites with a small cold chisel, or cripes, an old screwdriver, it would be laying on the floor and you would be installing the new one. Dont let a half a pound of steel be smarter than you. Now get your butt out there and rip into it.
