{{I drove the truck (my first experience in a military Dodge), what a blast! The only problem with it, is that it was VERY hard to shift. I tried double clutching to no avail. The owner said "You just have to get the timing down." Even with the bad shifting experience I've fallen in love!}}
I'm afraid I haven't any experience lately in the military trucks on sale prices. I would assume you might be able to get the seller down a little bit but if it's in really good condition, and you think it's worth it.....After all, you have to live with it if you buy it.
I sold several many years ago when I ran a salvage yard. The most then was around $2000 but then gas was 60¢ at the time too and president Carter said we didn't need to worry about those Iranian students.
On the shifting, the truck probably has spur gears with no synchromesh. You need to learn to double clutch. I can't really expl;ain it very well. It's like when your father taught you to tie a tie. He had to show you a couple of times in the mirror. The gist of it is to push on the clutch, pull the shiter out of gear, let the clutch out, push it back in, shift into gear, then let it out again. You can do it in the blink of an eye once you get the hang of it.
