The top of the cylinder will have more wear(Larger dia) and if you remove the ridge first you will have better luck not damaging a piston when they come out. But then again if the walls are rusted good it would be better to go the way of least movement but you will have to remove the crank shaft first. Use a block of soft wood on the top of the piston or bottom of the rod. Watch that you do not score the cylinder wall going up with them by the rod. Oil the walls with some oil or STP for making them slippery and clean all the rust off you can using a light honeing. Mark H.
