I have a '52. I built the bed with local wood.
The early 2nd series beds retained the rectangle cut out in the wood and a covering plate that allows access to the sender on the fuel tank.
I got the bed strips from Mar-K company.
I routed and planed the white oak boards.
Turned out well.
