The Timken writeup is good. The Dodge manual says to run the inner nut up tight (whatever that means) while spinning the wheel, then back off the nut 1/6 turn. I run the inner nut snug (20-30 ft lbs?) while spinning the wheel, then back off 1/6 turn. Too tight on the initial loading and the bearings will run hot.

Timken did a study that looked at bearing life compared to under- and over-tightened bearings. Mildly over-tightened bearings had a greatly reduce life span, while mildly under-tightened bearings performed almost as well as correctly tightened bearings.
