I rotate the wheel backwards to align the bearings and it also helps to tighten the nut as the wheel spins. I tighten the nut tight, but I don't put a lot of muscle into it, I just use a big screwdriver and a nut socket, while spinning the wheel until I can't turn the nut anymore. Once tight I align the screwdriver shaft with one of the hub studs and then turn the nut left to the 1st stud. The link also has procedures for adjusting the nuts.
