I have never had any paint mixed, but I would have to agree with what Marty said based upon looking into the possibility of having Dodge Truck Dark Green matched years ago.
The old guy who was going to match it (by hand - pre-computer scanning days) said if the truck had black primer, no paint match would look correct unless you used black primer under the new paint.
My '47 and '51 both have black primer. I would image that you '49 does too Tim.
