I haven't seen that book. The M37 service manuals have an excellent narrative specifically for the 9-5/8" ring and pinion. It includes how to set the preload for the double bearing on the pinion, which I have never seen anywhere else. I had to surface grind the backs of the cones on my 6x6 because they were out a fair bit.
