I think you'll be fine there, the VPW rims are 17x8". I don't know what the suggested width is for the older tires like that.
However if you go to a newer 35 or 37x12.5" sized tire or taller they will want an 8.5" wide rim minimum. You can get away with the 8" but I'd suggest to go to the 8.5" if you can so that down the road you have the option of using modern tires and have the correct rim width.
