I reused the original brake push rod and ran it through the return spring window in the back of the brake pedal bracket. I threaded some 1/2" CRS to match the push rod (1/2-20), and connected them with a Grade 5 coupling nut. No modifications were necessary to the brake pedal or push rod. I had to open the return spring window about 1/16" at the top to allow the shaft to clear, but that was it. Since the rod now goes through the spring window, I had to relocate the spring to the top (see next photo).
