My insurance went up so I called the company. Apparently now there is a "new" way to assess our risk. Now our insurance doesn't go down as our vehicles age. The type of vehicle is now the que. I happen to drive a suburban (1994) and now I am assessed for the "potential risk to others" in a crash (which I have never had). According to USAA, my insurer, "if you have an accident with a VW you will do more damage to the VW than it can do to you." Therefore, I have to have higher rates to cover that possibility.
Geez, now we get to pay more for being the safer, larger vehicle in a POTENTIAL accident. Cost-another $79 every six months. Used to be if you had a safer vehicle you got a break due to less damage potential to you. If this snags you, and all these new deals eventually get to all of us if it sticks at one company, be sure to formally complain to your insurer and your state insurance commissioner.
Guess I'll have to buy a SmartCar. Yuch!
