Oil leaking around distributor shaft?

Seems to me that a pretty large amount of oil is leaking out around my ditributor, where it meets the block.
Is there supposed to be some sort of seal? I can't see one in any of the pictures or manuals I have, but then again, I am not so smart.
I appeal to the collective forum wisdom. Thanks.
