I finally got to take the WDX out for a drive with the new rims & tires & It drives fantastic! I had it flat out in fourth on the flat. How fast? Your guess is as good as mine...I'll have to do some calculating. I was meticulous setting these brakes up & getting the shoes arced & set up just right, but I'm telling you, I can travel at 50MPH & slap the brakes on & have the tires just howling! They'll totally lock up all four of those big tires with average pedal pressure. I'm convinced that with brakes done PROPERLY, the brakes on the Flat Fenders are adequate. If I installed a hydrovac on this truck I can't imagine the stopping getting much better unless somebody's planning on engineering anti-lock brakes.
Here's a few pictures of it out & about...rims look a little odd on there...it's kind of deceiving because the tires are physically almost the same as the 1100X16's in size. Way less bounce at higher speed. I like them...just not on this truck. I'm going to install them on Wilbur..the red 1949 I bought from Judd but first I need to take the 4.89's out & install the 5.83's. Maybe I'll paint the rims red. What do you guys think...waste of time?
