I think the problem is still with the carb. Mine is cold blooded until it hits about 180 degrees so I wait until it is 140 + before trying to drive it. If the carb is working correctly, you have have about half a turn between rich/lean engine slow down adjustments. I always adjust 1/2 way btween the two. Unless you get a kit that allows the aluminum plugs to be taken out, you ensure you have clean passages. Try this:
- Buy some choke and carb cleaner in a spray can, with the engine off, remove the idle air screw and spray down the passage top inside of carb, the idle screw hole, then blow out with air.
- Seat the air screw and back off 2-1/2 turns.
- Start the engine and let it warm up to 180.
- turn air screw in or out until the engine speeds up and holds steady as you turn the screw.
- Turn screw in until engine starts sto slow down, back off until engine speeds up.
- Back screw out until engine starts to slow down, turn screw in until engine speeds up. Determine the amount of screw travel and adjust half way.

This is a little difficult to explain, I hope it makes sense. The other thing I would try is passing the ignition switch next time the problem appears. A loose switch can produce similar symptoms. There is a NOS carb on E-bay where I posted parts. You may want to try for it.

Let us know what happens after you do the above. It sounds like you have covered the basics.

Fuel pump problem would show up as a surge when your driving down the road, unless the pump quits totally. Did you check to see if the carb float is leaking?
