There are 2 types of dipsticks. One uses the tube that's attached to the side of the oil pan. The other shorter, dipstick goes through a hole in the bottom web of the block directly into the oil pan. The best way to determine the necessary length of tubing is to add the specified number of quarts to the crankcase and then measure the length of tubing needed to read 'FULL'. Have fun with your man-sized puzzle, you're doing great so far!
