Marty,
After looking at many trucks my guess is Dodge used the white trim color of that year on the gates, but as much of the trim was black in 48, it is possible they were painted black.
My guess is based more on the 50s gates, many of which I have seen with original paint.
Anyone have any REAL information? I would like to know!
