Most codes follow the National Electric or National Plumbing with minor varation (or some times major varations) depending upon where the city is located. Codes in California (electric) are a lot stricter due to earthquake, as the ones in minnasota may be stricter due to snow. But the national is the base for all of them. Yes I am a certified electrician in California (or is that certifibial?)
