I think you are mistaken with the pcv valve all that it is is a vent to the valve covers to have air flow into the valve covers and out (pcv=posiitive crankcase ventlation). What you may be thinking of is the egr valve which does mount on the intake manifold (egr=exhaust gas recirculating) I just went all through this with the state of california (or confusion) when I was getting my 74 W-100 registered as that is the only smog on the truck.
