I'm surprised ABS (DWV pipe?) is allowed for air, it seems like it would be brittle too. Maybe the foamy composition keeps it from shattering. But that's different from the polyethylene I was thinking of. I was just impressed that the poly could repeatedly freeze and thaw and not break.
