'86 dodge 4x4

While travaling from one plow job to the next my 4x4 went out. When I got to my last job I could not get the front hubs to lock in, the transfer case acted like it was going in but the front axle would not lock up. NO dash light either. I was told there was a vacume switch to lock it in where does the bacume line come from and where does it go? thanks tom(mich)
