Norm, I was not trying to give advice on construction methods or design, just sharing my personal preference on style with a few added general things to think about as most people don't consider gambrel roofed structures and what can be the benefits attained from them. But I am glad you pointed out the issues you have. It is a big country with a lot of regional regulations and nature issues to consider.

I may need to contract you if my dream of a nice shop ever becomes a reality. I like your idea of 20' of headroom! I went out to my 22' x 22' garage where I work on my trucks. Measuring from the bottom of the 10" I-beam supporting the "flat roof" to the concrete floor is 83 inches. I could use some aditionsl lifting room. When it comes to steel vs. wood...well I am willing to negotiate. Thanks Norm.

Clint
