But its a proven fact engines experience serious wear on startup so starting and stopping the engine will lead to wear so you arent wearing out the engine leaving it running as you would waiting on that first few seconds of dry bearings waiting for oil pump.

And in a situation where you are running delivery's day in and day out making many many many stops you'll put on a serious amount of "starts" on a starter and wear it out way faster then you or I would by going to work and then to lunch and then coming home from work.

Sure the diesel starter is made to turn over the diesels but they all are designed to make so many starts and then wear out. And then you have a vehicle that is probably making you money thats broke down not making you anything and or broke down in a bad spot making a delivery so now you have to tow the truck somewhere and then figure out what you are gonna do with the rest of the days deliverys let alone worry about tomorrow. If your town is like my town you dont go to the local AutoZone and get a starter for a CAT sitting in your Peterbilt or Frieghtliner. Everyone has to order it. We can get it here in 2 days. The local starter rebuild shop is back logged and cant get to it for 4 days.

I've been around diesels from locomotives down to my little ol John Deere 950 tractor and starting always seems to be the roughest time for the engine.
