A freind that drives tour buses was telling me that when he is at a stop during cold weather, (while the tour is doing there thing), he leaves the bus in gear, (w/brakes on), with the engine reved up to 1200-1500 RPM to make the engine "work" to keep the heaters hot. Otherwise the idling engine would cool down and the bus would lose heat.
Nowadays, some trucks have computers on them to allow the truck to idle only so long and then shuts it down. (probably due to complaints about trucks idling so long
in residential areas etc).
