Yesterday I went with a friend of mine to look at a '61 W200 in Apple Valley, Ca. He said it had a winch and the guy wanted $200 for it. We got there and the owner, a boy of about 18, had only a photocopy of someone else's title from 1979 to establish ownership. Upon examination of that my friend wanted to bail out. I told him "lets look". This truck has a 7' service bed, transfer case driven Braden PTO winch and the old poly 318. We loaded that sucker up and brought it home and play with it today. The kid was pretty happy because he'd paid $75 for the thing and more than dooubled his money.
After adding an alternator and a belt, and cleaning off about 55 lbs. of rat crap, we turned it over and darned if it didn't light up 2nd turn and purr like...ummmm...a 318 poly! We fought with the PTO pull for a while until we got it freed up and popped that puppy into gear, feeding out 300 ft. of near new 3/8" wire rope. We spooled it all back up real nice after greasing the winch then drove it over and parked it in my back 40. The cab is dust, just enough metal to hold the rust together, but I think a complete 3/4 ton drivetrain, running 318, good radiator, trans, transfer case, PTO winch, 300' of cable, a 6" bench vise and a service bed are worth $200. I also think I HATE my friend now....
