I've replaced door springs in the past, but I haven't encountered the loop-de-loop problem. I would cut it to match your old springs with an angle grinder. A hacksaw would be better but I doubt that a hacksaw will cut the metal as it is tempered steel. Be careful when working with these springs. Install with the door up to remove the tension as much as possible.
