Well, $1,000 sounds low to me, but that's where I'd start. Seems like once you get the initial volley done with, people will actually reveal the number they're secretly hoping for. Realistically, I have paid $1,200 for rusting hulks sitting in the weeds with broken cranks, and that was years ago. But then I'm dumber than dirt. You probably shouldn't take my advice, it's brought me nothing but poverty and troubles, but here it is:
I'd just say, "To the right person that truck might be worth more than I can pay. But I'm willing to give you X dollars because I want to restore it." But then she'd probably ask for the "right person's" phone number and tell me to get my fat posterior off her porch.
