willy, i wont claim to have a lot of knowlede on this matter , but i do know from a few former flatfenders that i have had you can really load one down, i had a '55 that had a flatbed that had 4 inch stills and was mounted on 3 inch chanel runners attached to the frame, this truck also had a dumo too i could easily haul 3500-4000 pounds of gravel on it, the bottom of the bed if i remember was about 8-10 inches from the top of the tires, of course this truck had overloads on it but even with that loading i never had any problems with the tires rubbing using 900x16's, these trucks are built like tanks, sorry for the long winded thing here, but i just aquired a '61 and the excitement is still a flowing. ps if anyone is intereseted i have a heavy duty flatbed on the '61 that i would love to sale as i want to build anew one for it.or would trade for something of equal value. take care and God Bless.
