4X4 differences Pre 72/72 up

Are the 72 and up full time W100/W200's as reliable as the pre 72's? I am interested in buying a power wagon as a daily driver and want to make an informed decision. Will be going off road every once in a while, pulling a 4k# trailer w electric brakes once in a while too. Is a 57 W100 out of the question for the same duty? What are your thoughts?
