Len, from 1985 to 1987 Dodge made a DANA 44 1 ton shift on the fly axle. I call it a 7/8 ton ha!ha! It is the normal 3/4 ton 44 until the outer knuckle, the outer knuckle is the 1 ton knuckle and 1 ton rotor. The down side is that it was a shift on the fly axle. However the price was right ($198) and I exchanged the shift on the fly housing and two piece axle for a one piece housing and one piece Moser axle. I installed ARB's front and rear, I play more in the rocks and sand than snow or mud (it's CA!). I am not certain that it would hold up to large tires and big power in muddin'.
I run 33"x 12.50 tires and air is a thing of my youth! I run the big u-joints, 35 splines, but it sounds like you need to mellow = ) or get DANA 60's or 70's to really hold up to that type of use.
