Chris,

It is amazing - my search for tractors would usually pan out the most in the fall and winter - when all of that foilage is down. I have stopped looking for them now and have switched to the PWs.

If I would have found it I don't know if I could have left it's side. :)

Isn't it something that it was within 10 miles of your house? Mine was in a barn within 15 mi. - for almost 20 years. A posting at the MEGA Walmart brought me the lead.

The guy died in the truck? Reminds me of that Private Malone song.
It would be interesting to see if the widow has any photos! It is also pretty neat how she nonchalantly said, "it rode rough".

Might be a worth while exercise to check into the photo possibility- just for nostalgia. Maybe there is some history with the truck that is significant. Mine was used by a local university and I have yet to contact them. I might put the original insignia back on mine too. Although my wife and others would not understand.

Don't know much about VIN tracking - but I would like to try it on my truck too.

With all of the things you will be doing - I sure would like to view a photo archive. This is my first truck restoration and I could use all of the visual help I can get.

Wonder what would cost me less - dropping in a newer 318 or rebuilding the 230. I know you can't really compare the engines - but I do have financial limits to think about. How much does one have to give for a 318 and how easy is the conversion. I split tractors and rebuild transmissions and such but engine work is new to me. I have done many 12V conversions and I swear by electronic ignition (easy too) but nut much motor work done in my garage.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Cliff
