It was w-a-y back in the 1987 (I know, I'm a pup). It wasn't mine, but I drove my grandfathers '41 Chevy pick up while I was in high school. The truck had history, it was originally owned by my great grandfather who bought it new to use at their rock quarry. My grandmother learned to drive in that truck! My mom and dad dated in that truck. It had a crazy transmission. Reverse was left and down and had a lever on the gear shift that you had to pull up to unlock the gate in order to shift into reverse. In the winter, when I had big gloves on, the lever would sometimes get accidentally pulled while going into 2nd gear at a red light. It would definitely get your (and the person behind you) attention when you let the clutch out and lurched backwards!

My grandfather also owned a '46 Dodge 2 1/2 ton (I think) dump truck that I used to drive during the summers hauling stuff for my his side business. I learned to double clutch in that truck. It had a PTO driven hydraulic dump bed and about a zillion zerk fittings! It seemed to take 4 hours to grease that thing (Pappy was big on maintenance).
