The Air force used MAN tractors to haul the GLCM (Ground Launch Cruise Missle) launchers around. They were 4 axle, all-wheel drive. The program was shut down when one of the SALT treaties was signed in the 80's.
The GLCM program spent more time in development, training and decomissioning than it did in actual service, so I'm not sure how many trucks were produced. Not sure what happened to the trucks either, but the crews trained in Davis-Monthan AF Base, AZ before shipping over to Europe. Maybe there's a couple in the DMAFB scrap yard?
Never drove one, but I worked with a guy that did, said it was down-right AWESOME!
