the only difference is the dye. if the cetane number is the same - think octane in gas, the fuel is identical. dont get caught running it in your registered on road vehicle. its an offense the govt does not take lightly. gallon for gallon diesel is more expensive than hho, but we buy it in bulk for our trucking co and the diff is not too big between the two.

a diesel engine, once running will burn almost any oil. there was a guy in london with a car that started on diesel (one tank) as he drove, he opens a mixing valve that allowed the second tank of oil to flow. the second tank was filtered used fish and chip oil. from what i heard, it made you hungry driving behind him. the govt shut him down as they couldnt figure out how to tax him! they should have given him an award.

what really intrigues me (and i hope to do it as a retirement project) is to build a wood gas burning engine. they were popular in europe during the war. basically you burn wood, filter the gases, feed the gases into the intake manifold of an engine and the engine runs on the unburnt gas from the burning wood. its more complicated than that, but it has always amazed me. a guy in the us had a 60s ford running this way and got his 'fuel' free from a floor installer. the ends of the oak flooring worked great. i think the flathead dodge would be a perfect engine to try this on!
