In Illinois we are allowed to display plates from the vehicles year of manufacture, as long as the vehicle is registered an an "antique vehicle" and we carry the new antique registration and plates within the vehicle. The problem here is that vehicles registered as "antiques" in Illinois have stringent restrictions on how they can be used. Would kind of defeat the purpose of my Power-Wagons. But...an even bigger problem is that the correct truck plates for my '47 WDX were made out of pressed soybean meal that year (and a few other years during and shortly after the war). These truck soybean plates are very hard to find in any condition. We have a lot of hog lots here in Illinois and hogs used to eat the lisence plates right off of trucks. Plus they tend to be brittle, do not hold up well to the weather, and look totally fake if one trys to restore them.
