Ignition Switch!

Check this out... Remember the no-start issue. Well, it's escalated itself, and now the truck may or may not start independent of the weather...

So we (my dad and I) read, reread, and read some more electrical diagrams. After lots of research we figured out what each post on the Dual Ballast Resistor does. The top post closest to front bulkhead is sending a stepped down voltage of 9volts to the coil. The bottom post is recieving voltage back from the ignition switch... That's the catch the voltage at the time may say 12.-- whatever, but when the temp warms up, or the electricity starts flowing through the switch it warms up and loses connection. Therefore the engine turns off like someone turned off the ignition switch (because that's what happens without the removal of the key).

So what we've done is create a small scale version of jumper cables... We connect to battery and then run one wire from the 12volts battery to the top coil post to start the truck. Once it's running, get back out and move the wire to the bottom of the ballast resistor, where the resistor can properly do it's job of stepping down the constant 12volts coming in, and send a constant 9 out to the coil. Has worked perfectly for two days. So we're ordering an $80 ignition switch from Chrysler.

Not to mention all the new electrical components under the hood, clean firewall connections, brand new battery, etc. You name it, it's either new or cleaned. Including every single connection on the back of the dashboard!!!
