Hi Mike,
Where does it say this at? Is it a tag or a casting? Mopar used many, many different methods to ID their motors. Here are a few possiblities; 318 is naturally the displacement, L could be the year code which for"L" would be 1975. B, in the proper location would indicate undersized journals, OR it could be dirty and actually say 318LA which is the later series motor. If you can find the block casting number I can tell more, however if you already have a 318, ANY 318 will fit, including a Poly. The newer the motor, the more problems you will have with electronics, computers etc. as far as getting the motor to run correctly if you plan on using the stock carb and emmissions systems. The same age or older than your present motor usually works best, unless you have a degree in electronics,...or post here often for answers from the smart guys here who are snowed in this winter. Lastly, the newer the motor, the less power it will develop because of compression ratios, emmissions etc., UNTIL you get to the very lastest generation motors which now are putting up very good performance numbers while running very clean.
