If the flatheads had enough hp to operate the PW at a reasonable pace, then the 318 should have more than enough hp and torque.
The LA 273-318-340 have many parts that will interchange including the cranks but, the crank in the 360 is a totally different creature and will not interchange. It also has a longer stock stroke than either the 350 chevy or 351 ford. Its heads are simular in valve size to the 340 and will interchange
and fit the other LA engines but, the intake manifold must be used so that the ports match the head ports. This combo gives the 318 better breathing and exhaust due to the bigger valves (poormans 340). Because the head chamber is slightly larger than the 318, you will lose some compression but, a speed shop or book can tell you how much can be shaved to boost the compression back up.
The 318 will give better gas mileage and if you can find a pre-1973 318, it will have more hp due to the compression reduction in 73'to aid in pollution control.
Had Chrysler designed an upright in-line 6 instead of that odd-ass slant design, the 225 would be a adequite substitute for the L-6 but thats just my opinion. Goodluck
