A few years ago I went out to Portland, OR with 8 grand burning a hole in my pocket and test drove a freshly imported French army 404 (as I remember). Cool truck, flexy and lockers and great clearance. But the tires were just worn NATO-type and the owner couldn't get it up a greasy mud hill, not enough ummph to spin out the tires, kind of like a stock M-37. Not knocking a cool rig, but it was a wake up call for me. The beast was not unstop-able. I decided I could live with my beater M-37 w/318 for a while longer.Also, a junkyard mog tranny costs more than I paid for my M-37.
