My first Dodge was a military M37. Engine was shot when I got it, so I put a 318 in there, doing the job as you suggest, with no cutting or welding of the frame or body.

Worked really good, but I got bit by the WWII bug and sold it to restore a WC53 Carryall. I left the Carryall stock, and to tell the truth, it was difficult (perhaps even dangerous) to use with the flow of modern traffic. I really missed the V8.

I hope to do a WC51 or 52 soon, and I plan to repower with a 318 or 360. I figure if the conversion is done in a "bolt on" way, no perminate historical damage is done, and you have a vehicle you can use a lot more.
