20 years ago I put a Pinto 4 banger in my CJ-2A and have regretted ever since.
Rebuild the engine you have. I am restoring a 41 WC-21. My understanding is that the axles in the half tons are weak and I have been warned about 4 wheeling with one. If thats the case a bigger engine would be a minus. I have also heard that the 1/2 tons will cruise at 50-55 MPH which is fine for a driver. the 3/4 tons are geared lower and max speed is 45 or so. That would be a better unit to repower.
