I am undecided at this point what to do with
one of my trucks.

The original motor needs a rebuild, and extimates are running way over budget. I figure I can put in a v8 (or V6) for half that amount.

Problem: I dont want to ruin the value of the truck by making any conversion that is not reversable someday.

Has anyone ever put a non-original engine in a 1/2 ton military WC without hacking up the original frame? Maybe using the original mounting locations?

This would be my ideal setup should it be possible:

Mounting a modern V8 or V6 using the original mount PLUS adapting it somehow to the original bellhousing, retaining the floor mounted pedals and original transmission.. There has got to be a way to do this..

Has anyone ever done this? It would be great, as it would leave the rest of the driveline original and in its proper place.

Plus, I would have the added power for highway speed and to tow my other jeep with.

I talked with Helitool any they do have a plan to make a Dodge Dakota V6 conversion soon, but, I dont know if the conversion plans on using the original tranny and leave it in place.

Please, anybody with any info on this?

Thanks
