The M series Braden was the earlier type winch made in the 1930s - 60s, they were cast steel, had open de-clutch controls, and primarily used on military, logging and industrial application. The L series, followed up by AL series, were cast aluminum housings, smaller drum sizes and semi-enclosed de-clutch mechanisms. These were used on civilian trucks through today.
The L series was replaced by the AL series and parts are still made for the AL today.
Other vendors have many parts for the M & L series winches. Braden had sold the MU series designs in the late 60s, they are now made overseas but are original types, they just don't sport the braden trademark.
