These engines all run at a low rpm relatively, and believe it or not run even better on alternative fuels such as propane witch normally need the hardened seats as to higher operating temprature,s. however I have used propane on a wide array of engines to be able to report this to you! heat is the reason you need the hardened seats in the first place where'as leaded fuels back in the good old day's provided the lubrication needed for valve face to seat contact as we all know. Unleaded fuels and of course gaseous fuels such as propane and natual gas do not provide that lubrication and after a considerable amount of time or extreme driving conditions your valves may sink out of site! this actually takes a lot! I have pulled my boat ( 27 foot cabin cruiser ) between Edmonton Alberta to Prince Rupert British Colombia up and down endless miles of mountain terrain with a 79 ford with a 429 V8 on propane without hardened seats. let me tell you, this is extreme at its most! I made 8 trips to the coast with that rig and drove it every day besides . when I finally tore the engine down, some of the valves had started to recede I,m sure I could have gotten another 10,000 miles out of them. So I say to you, I definatly wouldn't worry about running unleaded fuel, at least, not for an awfull long time! You could install stellite seats if and when the need arose. I'm quite sure in saying you will not run your engine to the SUSTAINED extremes as I did.
