I think all of these flathead engines had hardened
valve inserts and therefore don't require lead in
the fuel. It may be that the industrial versions
had even better inserts.

Given that most of these engines are not driven at
high rpm, and in fact may not get a lot of miles at
all, I don't think preventative maintence in this
case is warranted. I have selection of flathead
Chrysler products; I have driven them all on modern
gas with no problems yet.

If they ever do need replacing, you are only doing
what you would have done anyway. Might as well
wait til they need it...may well be never.
