Synchromesh Advantages and Availability

I,m trying to decide whether to rebuild the crash box in my 1950 B2PW126, or switch to a synchromesh transmission, which I understand became available in 1956. When I mentioned this to a friend (who now owns five excellent condition Power Wagons), he said he prefered the shorter throw of the crash box.

My question is what if any is the difference in shift lever travel? If any, is it significant? What other differences are there besides the obvious need not to double clutch?

I'm planning to work my truck on the farm, although I am doing a total rebuild/restoration. It will rarely see the highway. I'm sticking with the 5.83 gearing. Probably the only concession to more modern equipment will be lock-out hubs. Any advice is appreciated. Finally, does anyone have a rebuilt synchromesh tranny ready to bolt in? Thanks guys!
