The initial question is a good question but the above answer is incomplete at best. Do not mess with the free wheel lever when winching a load. The lever is there to allow you to play out cable when the winch is NOT operating. Never put yourself between the truck and the load with the winch operating. DON'T answer questions when you don't know the answer. I don't mean to piss anyone off, but bad information is dangerous when messing with machinery.
